In December 2013, my fiancĆ© (now husband) and I were driving the Peak-to-Peak Highway to meet his parents and our two four-year-olds at Eldora Ski Area for a snowy day of fun. As we rounded a curve, the sunrise over the Rocky Mountains took my breath away, and I told him to stop the car. Standing in the middle of the quiet road (not recommended!), I teared up at the beauty and declared, āThis is where I want to get married.ā We had been planning a North Carolina mountain wedding but decided on the spot to elope in Estes Park.
In just four days, we organized the most stress-free and memorable wedding of our lives. We married at the Historic Stanley Hotel with our two kids and Stephenās mom and stepdad as witnesses. I surprised him by singing Van Morrisonās Crazy Love during the ceremony, accompanied by a guitarist Iād hired. We found an officiant, rented tuxes, and I scored a 75%-off wedding dress from the only local boutique (the only one that fit me!). Our small reception took place in the Stanleyās wine room, and Stephen and I spent a magical (and slightly spooky) night in the hotel while the kids stayed with their grandparents.
As the wedding planner for our North Carolina waterfront venue since 2012, this experience changed how I approached weddings. I became passionate about helping couples enjoy the same stress-free, magical experience we had in Estes Park.
